Job title: Senior Financial Analyst
Department: Finance
At Henkel since: 1998
What is your job at Henkel?
I’m a financial analyst and I support the sales side of the business relating to our Professional Division and our Hardware Home Center sales division.
How did you get started with Henkel?
When I married, I relocated. That's when I started with Henkel - mostly because of the culture of the company. I really like the kind of family-oriented culture that I couldn’t find anywhere else I’d been interviewed.
What are your day-to-day business responsibilities?
As a financial analyst I spend a lot of time with numbers, analyzing sales and profit trends, and doing investment analysis in terms of acquiring new business. Also, I have to evaluate how much money we can afford a customer to acquire a product. I run a lot of management reports providing information to the senior management, and also the sales force. I do a lot of research on issues driving sales profitability. My work entails many projects. I also supervise the pricing department, a group of three people.
What further professional training programs have you taken part in while with Henkel?
I received my MBA while I was working at Henkel. The company paid for this degree through the Tuition Enrichment Program. Additionally, I’ve taken the 12-week Carnegie Course on presentation skills and other helpful topics you can apply to daily life. Also, I’ve been involved in smaller training programs, workshops and leadership training.
Did you have a mentor?
Not really, but over the time I’ve developed a lot of relationships with certain people around me. With some I feel close enough to ask them for advice in terms of career and how to handle certain situations.
What about the term "learning on the job"?
Any job is kind of a constant learning process where you try to continue improvement in your business. Throughout my career at Henkel I have held several different roles in the financial sector, but I’ve also learned many other aspects of the business while doing financial analysis for the sales and marketing groups.
