Jobs at Henkel

Dan

Job title: Manager
Department: IT
At Henkel since:

Why did you choose to work with Henkel?
I was looking for a job change, and I wanted to work at a company that was both successful in the marketplace and had people that really enjoyed working there. I started doing research and got into contact with the local Henkel association in Scottsdale, AZ. My research indicated that Dial/Henkel was very successful and that the people really enjoyed working here, and I felt that there were tremendous opportunities happening in conjunction with the acquisition.

What job experiences have you had at Henkel?
I previously worked 16 years for American Express in the Business Intelligence and Data Warehousing space. Most recently I spent four years at DHL in almost the same function before I came to Henkel.

What about the term "learning on the job"?
There is a lot of both formal and informal support. Learning what Henkel does is, in my opinion, quite complex. The fact that there are several major divisions within each of those divisions means there are several major activities going on.

What piece of advice would you give to people starting at Henkel?
What I would suggest is something that has been an ongoing activity for me: if you’re not familiar with a special knowledge field, work on getting familiar with it, e.g. my background is more on financial services and transportation and not so much in consumer products. It’s a different industry with a lot of complexities and specialties that are important to understand so you can really play a significant leadership role. If you want to work at Henkel, become aware of the consumer products world and specifically, become aware of the products that Henkel offers and the role the company plays in the market.
