Lehner receives SIFE award in recognition of his exemplary support for the organization
Düsseldorf/Toronto - Prof. Ulrich Lehner, Chairman of the Management Board of Henkel KGaA, recently received the SIFE "Global Champion" award in Toronto in recognition of his outstanding commitment to the promotion of this international student network.
SIFE (Students in Free Enterprise) annually holds a worldwide competition in which student teams present their projects to the top managers of leading international corporations.
In the course of their projects they work together with schools and social or cultural organizations, and also provide advice to initiatives or start-ups whose activities have a strong social or societal bias. During the project work, they temporarily assume management responsibility, enabling them to apply their knowledge under practical business conditions. At the end of the allotted period, they hand over the projects to their collaborating partners, who then carry them on under their own responsibility.
Of particular importance in the view of the SIFE jury is that the individual projects be managed in an ethically and socially responsible manner and that they reflect - and ultimately underpin - the principles of a market economy. Involvement in a successful SIFE project means, of itself, exhibiting entrepreneurial, corporate and social responsibility. And the pro-active acceptance of such responsibility has long been an important component in Henkel's corporate citizenship code.
SIFE was founded in the USA in 1975 and is today represented in more than 1,700 universities in 48 countries around the world. Within the framework of their SIFE projects, students gain both theory and practical experience in the fields of economics, entrepreneurship, finance and ethical business practice.
